The theatre's first opening title was the opera drama by Czech composer Josef Bohuslav Foerster: Eva (1960). The dramaturgical direction of the opera went to the staging of important opera titles. The focus of the initial repertoire consisted mainly of works of romantic opera (Faust and Margaret, Rusalka, Masquerade Ball, Troubadour, Don Carlos, La Traviata, etc.). A significant achievement was the premiere of Eugen Suchoň's opera: Krútňava (1963) - Suchoň's work was staged in Slovakia again after more than ten years with the original conclusion. Another significant announcement in 2008 was cleared of any deposits of period censorship. In the nationwide context, the State Opera has gained its priority place by discovering staging of world opera titles in Slovak premieres. (Gounod's Romeo and Juliet (1965), Cile's Adriana Lecouvreur (1985), Donizetti's Favorite (1992), Verdi's Arold (1993), Ernani's (1999), Attila (2005), Bellini's Puritans (2001) and lesser-known operas by Giacomo Puccini ( The dramaturgy has long emphasized the performance of original opera works by Slovak composers Tibor Andrašovan, Bartolomej Urbanec, Ilya Zeljenka, Juraj Beneš, Igor Bázlik, etc. The artistic level of the ensemble has increased significantly over the last decade.
