There are many rare plant and animal species in Hájská dolina, the diversity of flora is conditioned by the inversion of vegetation zones. The valley separates the two easternmost plains of the Slovak Karst, namely Jasovská planina and Zádielská planina.
The 14 km long Hájsky stream flows through the valley, which springs on the border of the Slovak Karst and the Volovské vrchy. It is a left tributary of the river Turňa. At the end of the gorge, it creates a system of waterfalls of various sizes in the travertine dikes in the area from the Devil's Bridge thanks to the height differences of up to 300 meters.
Among the largest and most visited waterfalls in the direction from the village of Háj to the village of Hačava, which are also pointed out by three signposts located on the road between these villages, are:
»Dolný Hájsky waterfall approx. 5 m high (from the asphalt road it is marked as waterfall no. 1),
»Hájsky waterfall Big bridge approx. 3.1 m high,
»Hájsky waterfall Malý perej cca 2 m high,
»Hájsky waterfall A small bridge about 3 m high,
»Hájsky waterfall approx. 1.5 m high
»Veľký Hájsky waterfall approx. 7 m high (from the asphalt road it is marked as waterfall no. 2),
»Central Hájsky waterfall approx. 3.9 m high (from the asphalt road it is marked as waterfall no. 3),
»Horný Hájsky waterfall approx. 5.3 m high (from the asphalt road it is marked as waterfall no. 4).
At Veľký Hájský waterfall you can find gazebos, benches and fireplaces. You will also find a bench by the Central Hájský waterfall. It is best to take a walk in the woods along the stream.
The waterfalls Hájsky waterfall Veľký most and Hájsky waterfall Malý most are partly a human creation.
