You will notice the waterfall right from the gate of the deserted spa park. If you go against the flow of water, you will come across one of the most famous attractions in Vyšné Ružbachy: the travertine lake Kráter . The crater has nothing to do with volcanic activity. It is a regular circular depression on top of a travertine mound filled with mineral water. It is said to be 20 meters in diameter, 2 to 3 meters deep with a steeply sloping bottom. Travertine lake Kráter is the largest of its kind in Slovakia. Mineral water flows out of the lake and creates the already mentioned waterfall.
From the Crater you will pass the spring of Sčensna (water is not drinkable) to the Death Pits . These are other depressions in the travertine mounds, except that they are slightly smaller than the Crater and are without water. And why are they called Death Pits? CO2 is escaping from them. It is said that a small amount of gas will not do anything to a healthy adult. However, if you look over the edge of the pit, you may see tits, thrushes and small rodents at various stages of decomposition at the bottom. Entry into the pit is prohibited. The board in the middle of the pit informs about it.
Vyšné Ružbachy is located west of Stará Ľubovňa. If you go from Stará Ľubovňa towards Kežmarok, or Poprad, in Nižné Ružbachy turn right. Then go straight on, enter the village of Vyšné Ružbachy and turn left at the first big crossroads. In less than 200 meters you will see a car park on the left. Right next to the parking lot is the entrance to the spa park.
The park is a park. They walk on paths, paths and sidewalks. Sandals are enough. In several places in the park there is an orientation board, with which you will find everything you need.
