Water reservoir Pod Bukovcom

The Pod Bukovcom reservoir is located near the village of Bukovec, which is about 5 km west of the city of Košice.

It was built on the flow of the Ida creek, in the valley of the same name in the 1960s. The valley of the Ida stream is located between the Kojšovská hoľa and Holička mountain subunits. The mentioned Ida stream is the only tributary of the Pod Bukovcom reservoir, which springs below the White Stone (1,134.5 m) near the Kojšovská hole (1246 m above sea level). This stream also supplies water to the Bukovec reservoir, which is not open to the public.

The Pod Bukovcom reservoir was built as an emergency storage of utility water for VSŽ Košice (today USSteel).
In front of the tank there is a small sedimentation tank, which is used to catch impurities.

In the summer months, the Pod Bukovcom reservoir is a popular place for suburban recreation. There are opportunities for swimming, windsurfing and fishing. In the summer months there are two beaches. The beach located closer to the road called Woow Plaz Bukovec has a pebble beach, several showers, deck chairs, boats, children's and beach playgrounds and is paid. The beach located at the Salaš Bukovec buffet called Beach Bukovec is free of charge.

For the most part, the beaches at the Pod Bukovcom reservoir are made up of uncultivated grassy areas, which alternate with areas covered with low and wild vegetation. The bottom of the water tank is muddy. The cleanliness of the water reservoir is evidenced by the occurrence of crayfish.

In the inhabited zone and on the bank of the Pod Bukovcom reservoir, we can rarely find species such as white willow, sticky alder and two-part two-toothed. The Pod Bukovcom water reservoir is a fishing ground in the use of the Slovak Fishing Association with a larger proportion of rainbow trout, brown trout, pond carp, northern pike, big toothfish, green perch and red-legged roach.

The average water depth of the tank is 9 meters, its maximum depth is about 15 meters and the average water temperature during the season is 21 ° C.
The water reservoir is located in a moderately warm climate.

The surrounding forest terrains are suitable for cycling and hiking.
