80 meters (according to some sources up to 90 m) high Kmeťov waterfall is the highest in Slovakia. You can find it in Kôprová dolina, which is located on the border of the Western and High Tatras below the slopes of the iconic Kriváň peak. The waterfall is named after the important Slovak Andrej Kmeť, who was also a priest, archaeologist, geologist, paleontologist, historian, ethnographer and, last but not least, a botanist. His extensive herbarium consisting of 72,000 items, which is stored in the Slovak National Museum in Martin, is especially significant.
You can visit the Kmeťov waterfall while crossing the Kôprova valley and a "blind" turn will lead you to it. An ordinary tourist cannot get over the waterfall. It falls from the Nefcerka valley, which is thanks to the unique preserved ecosystems of European importance the most strictly guarded nature reserve in Slovakia. Kmeťov waterfall is the third, but the highest waterfall on the mountain stream Nefcerka falling into the Kôprova valley.
You can get to Kôprova dolina from Troch Studničky or from Podbanské and Kmeťov waterfalls you will find half of the 12 kilometers long valley, at the end of which you have several tourist options. From the end of Kôprova dolina you can ascend to Hladký sedlo lying on the state border, from where you will have an excellent view of the Polish lake. Another option is to continue from Kôprova dolina through the valley of Hlinský potok, which will take you to Kôprovský štít above Veľký Hincovy pleso, the largest ball in Slovakia.
