Svidník II War Cemetery.

Svidník II War Cemetery. is one of the large cemeteries in the Svidník district. It is located just a few meters from the magnificent Soviet monument. It is part of a civil cemetery. Unfortunately, we do not have much information about this war cemetery.

There are 67 graves in the cemetery, of which 13 are mass graves. There are graves no. 23-33, 62, 65 and 67. How many bodies are buried in these mass graves is unknown. Graves no. 63, 64 and 67 are common graves. The archives do not contain any information on how many soldiers are buried in these common graves. The total number of graves is complemented by 51 separate graves. According to archival documents, 360 soldiers are buried in the cemetery, but these sources are not known and we cannot verify this without further information about common and mass graves.

Further data on those killed in the cemetery are not known in principle. Registration records do not list the names, nationalities or divisions of soldiers buried in this cemetery. They all died between 1914 and 1915. In the cemetery, soldiers are probably killed in battle, but also those who died as a result of injuries or illness abroad. A great rarity is the grave of the Czechoslovak soldier Ján Hlaváč. This soldier died under unknown circumstances in July 1921 and was buried in this war cemetery.

The cemetery was founded during the First World War. In the interwar period, no evidence was preserved in this cemetery to confirm any burial grounds in this cemetery in the interwar period.

Today, the military cemetery is a dignified war memorial. The grave is level and grassed. Symbolically, Tetrad and three stone crosses are placed around the cemetery. In the middle of the cemetery is the road leading to the central monument, which is a metal cross. At the entrance to the cemetery is a stone monument with a stone plaque. The text on the board reads: "There are 360 unknown soldiers killed in the First World War."

However, this cemetery is not just a place of respect. It also has great cultural and historical value. It is a pity that there is no suitable information board at this place to inform visitors about the history of the cemetery.
