Markušovský skalný hríb

Above the Hornád riverbed, about 5 km east of the village of Markušovce, stands the most beautiful and most famous mushroom-shaped rock formation in Slovakia (and allegedly also the largest in the whole of Europe), the Markušovský rock mushroom.

The mushroom consists of about 8 m high legs and a hat with a diameter of 3 m.

Interestingly, while the foot is made of cardboard, the hat consists of sandstone.

Markušovský skalný hríb is a part of the natural monument Markušovská stena. A tourist trail leads to it from the village of Markušovce and from the village of Matejovce nad Hornádom. The hike to the mushroom is undemanding, suitable for all ages.
