It is located behind the former village of Rolová Huta, which in 1960 was administratively merged with the village of Margecany. Most of the village of Rolová Huta was rehabilitated due to the construction of the Ružín dam.
The Margecan tunnel was built on the single-track line of the Košice-Bohumín railway, which was put into operation in 1872. The tunnel was damaged in January 1945 by retreating German troops. This previously railway tunnel ceased to be used for railway transport in 1955, when a new double-track company line was put into operation.
The tunnel is unique in that almost half of the entire length of the tunnel tube does not have a masonry and its walls are formed only by the worked rocks themselves.
There are 3 security niches, placed alternately on its sides. After removing the rails, the bottom of the tunnel tube was concreted.
In 1985, the tunnel was entered in the Central List of Monuments of the Slovak Republic as a technical monument. A purpose-built road leading to one of the recreational areas of the Ružín dam called Kozinec now passes through the tunnel.
Right behind the tunnel is a massive rock cliff, which was created during the construction of the Košice-Bohumín railway.
The company's line required the construction of the longest double-track tunnel in Slovakia behind Rolova Huta. It is the Bujanov tunnel with a total length of 3410 meters.
In 2018, as part of the "Margecian tunnel, open gallery" project, lighting was installed in the tunnels along its entire length. At its entrance portal, an information board was placed here, which points out the history and technical parameters of the tunnel.
Other important technical monuments on the družba Line are the Ružínsky viaduct railway bridge and the shortest double-track tunnel in Slovakia - the Ružínsky tunnel with a length of 131 meters.
