The formation consists of two interestingly shaped rock gates, which represent the remains of lava flows several million years old. From the tops of these gates there is a beautiful view of the surroundings of Snina, especially the mentioned Sea Eye surrounded by a dense beech forest.
The locality is also interesting for the occurrence of rare plant species, such as the only originally Slovak liana, the Alpine flamingo. The gates of Sninský kameň are accessible by means of iron stairs with railings. Several hiking trails lead to them, such as the nature trail from Morský oka or marked trails from Zemplínské Hámry and Snina.
