It is one of the few cold geysers in the world. Its closest counterpart can be found in Germany, for others we would have to travel to distant Iceland.
The Herlian geyser is a natural phenomenon, but it was activated by human activity, namely a 404.5 m deep artificial well drilled in the second half of the 19th century in order to obtain thermal water for local spas. Geyser eruptions occur at irregular 34 to 36-hour intervals. Unlike conventional hot geysers, they are not caused by hot water vapor, but by carbon dioxide.
The length of the eruption is about 25 minutes, its height reaches 7 to 15 m. Over the decades, however, the intensity of eruptions slowly decreases and the interval between them lengthens. The water in the geyser is moderately mineralized and has a temperature of up to 18 ° C. Herliansky Geyser is surrounded by a beautiful historic park.
