Palcmanská Maša reservoir

If you do not know where to take a short walk through the Slovak Paradise, make a circuit. Palcmanská Maša Reservoir will bring you a pleasant walk, suitable for families with children.

Difficulty and length of the route
If we take into account that this is a route in the Slovak Paradise, we can consider it easy and simple. The walk around the Palcmanská Maša reservoir is easy except for a few sections. Along the way you will see some nice corners of this place. We recommend the trip to even the smallest ones, I will definitely be able to playfully handle it.

Route information
The route is undemanding, suitable even for the smallest ones. It is ideally parked right behind the wooden gate to the Slovak Paradise. From there, continue on the asphalt road. Along the way you can notice rock formations on the left or a stream on the right. Gradually you will reach a body of water that you bypass from the outside. This is where the asphalt road ends. This is followed by a crossing through a meadow, over time a more stony forest path. With it comes a climb that can be taken up slightly. If you see a view mark on the tree, don't hesitate - don't miss that view. It is beautiful to see the water level, the shore where you recently stood as well as the railway tracks. The red leads us gradually down, we get to the village of Dedinky, where we can see the shore from the other side.

Next to the village we get to the signpost, where we change direction to the green markings that will lead us to the water reservoir. A nice building with a view of the village brings fish on warm summer days, which enjoy the heat at the surface. Behind the tank it is necessary to go through the tracks. It is not exactly legal and safe, but otherwise the route does not lead, in addition, the train runs there minimally. Then it is on an asphalt road with a slight incline, care must be taken due to the cars moving. But we turn off the asphalt road and get to the next bank of the reservoir. Here you notice the restaurant on the left, it has beautifully carved statues. Between the houses up the sign, which at the end of the village goes for a walk through the meadows. The walk through the meadows ends again on the asphalt road. Even if the road to the forest is paved on the right side, you will definitely not use this option - it would lead you to an electric transmitter and you would have to go back. So continue a little on the asphalt, but be more careful, cars drive here. This path will take you to the car park where you probably left your car.

Interesting facts
We start in the village of Stratená, which has a nature reserve next to it with the same name. This reservation is a kind of beginning of the Slovak Paradise, it does not hide many ladders and waterfalls, but it still has many beautiful treasures.

Our journey will take us further around the water reservoir to the village of Dedinky. It was established in 1933 by merging two municipalities - Imrichovce and Štefánovce. Next to this village is the Palcmanská Maša reservoir. It was around this reservoir that we chose this trip. The village of Dedinky is a popular place for tourists, so you will find many accommodation and sports facilities.

Palcmanská Maša is the largest water reservoir in the Slovak Paradise National Park. The construction of the reservoir was completed in 1956 and the water area covers an area of approximately 86 hectares. The water reservoir is a part of the Dobšiná pumped storage hydroelectric power plant, which is the first such power plant in Slovakia. On the one hand, there is good access to water, where it is also possible to swim at your own risk, or rent a boat, on the other hand, you can see the massive construction of the water reservoir itself. We definitely recommend a walk around the water reservoir. If you do not know where to go on a trip with children and you are near the Slovak Paradise, try to stop here.
