Sv. Stefan came from a ducal family. His father was Gejza; in the years 972-997 he ruled in Hungary as Grand Duke. Her mother's name was Charlotte, she was the daughter of Prince Gyula of Transylvania.
He was declared a saint by Pope Gregor VII. in 1083, along with others who contributed to the Christianization of Hungary. Among them was his son Imrich.
