In May 1931, there was a strike by the workers of the Diosek sugar factory, which was not allowed and, moreover, was already part of the Communist Party's election campaign. This event resulted in a tragedy that went down in history as a "Kosuto volley". The atmosphere between the workers and the gendarmes intensified and the strike claimed 3 victims (Štefan Turzo, Alexander Žabka and Ján Gyevát) and 6 injured.
