The Rudava Protected Area is located on the cadastral border of the village of Plavecký Mikuláš with the Záhorie Military District. It is named after the river Rudava, which flows through this area and together with Stará Rudava.

The purpose of the protected area is to ensure the protection of habitats of European importance: Eurosiberian oak forests on loess and sand, Carpathian and Pannonian oak-hornbeam forests, Alluvial oak-elm-ash forests around lowland rivers, Alluvial willow-poplar and alder forests, Transitional forest and alder forests , Moisture-loving high-herb marginal communities on river floodplains from lowlands to alpine grade, Oligotrophic to mesotrophic waters with benthic char vegetation, Lowland to mountain watercourses with Ranunculion fluitantis and Callitricho-Batrachion vegetation, Natural dystrophic stagnant waters, vegetation of floating or submerged vascular plants such as Magnopotamion or Hydrocharion, Inland Pannonian sand dunes (2340), Dry heaths in lowlands and hills, Rivers with muddy to sandy banks with vegetation of Chenopodion rubri p.
