Petr Štefan Polák, a native of Plavecký, was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1974. He worked at the parish in Borovce since 1981. He was a member of the pro-regime Pacem in Terris movement, but left Rome after a visit to Rome in 1986 and a personal meeting with the pope. On October 7, 1987, he was brutally murdered at the parish in Borovce. His murder is still unclear, despite the case being opened several times. One of the versions is that it was committed by ŠTB with an intimidating motive. People from ŠTB persecuted Š. A Pole for a long time and he was worried about his life in front of his acquaintances. The communist regime convicted a homeless man who was later released and died in 1993, even under unclear circumstances.
