We are glad that you have decided to get to know the charm and history of the cottage, which belongs to one of the oldest mountain cottages in Slovakia. The cornerstone of this shelter, as it was called in the past, was laid on July 8, 1923. Since then, the cottage has taken many forms and has been affected by many events. Nevertheless, it still remains a place that retains its unique and original atmosphere. We have no doubt that it will "get" you and become a place for you to relax and be inspired.

Holuby's cottage

We are glad that you have decided to get to know the charm and history of the cottage, which belongs to one of the oldest mountain cottages in Slovakia. The cornerstone of this shelter, as it was called in the past, was laid on July 8, 1923. Since then, the cottage has taken many forms and has been affected by many events. They chose a place for Holuby's shelter by a strong spring of mountain water, where the terrain has already been prepared. On the Slovak side, the building grew also because of the nice view of Považie, but also because it was covered against a strong northwest wind. As the builder Josef Jirásek from Uherský Brod promised, the cottage was built within a year, it was ceremoniously opened on July 6, 1924.

However, the cottage served tourists only for two years, on December 6, 1926 it burned to the ground, only the stone foundations and the brick chimney remained. The chatar, who miraculously survived with the whole family, took refuge in Květná in the winter, and for the summer he stayed in the annex of the stables, which were being completed and also served as an occasional accommodation for tourists.

In July 1928, the foundation stone of the new cottage was laid. The projects, stored in the State Archive of Trenčín, date back to 1927, and are signed by the well-known Prague architect František Svoboda, and the builder was Jozef Hanuš from Uherský Brod. It was inaugurated on June 22, 1930, but approved a year earlier in the winter.

and socialism changed owners several times - the owners were the Central Slovak hotels Ružomberok, Turista, the national enterprise Piešťany, Restaurants and canteens Trenčín. In 1968, they financed the more extensive reconstruction of the entire cottage, water supply and sewerage. Miroslav Masaryk bought the cottage after 1989, and Miro Martinček has been the owner since November 2006, returning Holuby's cottage not only to its former appearance, for example by adding an architecturally interesting entrance, but also historical seriousness. Thanks to him, a new bust of Jozef Ľudovít Holuby, by academic sculptor Stan Mikuš, shines on the front of the cottage. The cottage is undergoing a demanding reconstruction during full operation, and plans to adjust the surroundings so that it attracts as many tourists from the Moravian and Slovak side of the border. The historic "shelter" definitely deserves an expensive construction repair.
