A trebuchet is a type of siege machine or stone thrower. The flourishing of very well-protected castles created the need for the production of an extremely powerful machine capable of breaking down castle walls and throwing projectiles sufficiently high and far. Projectiles of considerable size could be thrown from the slingshot. Dead horses or cows, or even corpses, were also sometimes used as missiles, which were shot into castles and cities to spread various diseases.
