The fairytale Bojnický castle , which is one of the most visited and most beautiful castles not only in Slovakia, but also in Central Europe. The castle was built on a travertine mound on which a medieval castle stood in the 11th century. In the past, it was owned by the most famous noble families, while its last owners were the Pálfi family.
At present, the collections of the art-historical museum are concentrated in the castle. In the exposition you can see the original equipment and art objects from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The largest unique and most valuable works include the Late Gothic set of paintings - the so-called Bojnice altar by the Florentine master N. di Cione Ortagna from the middle of the 14th century. Part of the tour of the castle is a visit to the drip cave under the castle, which is connected to the 26 m deep castle well.
Among the many events organized in the castle, the most famous is the International Ghost and Haunting Festival, which is regularly organized at the end of April and the beginning of May. During this period, Bojnický castle is a meeting center for ghosts, witches and vampires from all over the world.
