Route description
We start the route in Kysucky Nové Mesto at the railway station. We follow the green sign and pass through Vajanského Street, past the House of Culture and over the bridge to the main Čadec - Žilina road. We cross the road and enter the village of Radoľa. The green sign turns right (in this part of Radole, we can also find a Renaissance mansion from the 16th century, which currently houses the Kysucké Museum exhibition. We continue along the asphalt road through the village to its southeastern end, where we are already walking along an unpaved road through the fields. Vreteň rises proudly in front of us and seems very inaccessible. However, we soon enter its spruce-beech bowels and take the first height meters full steam ahead. The ascent is quite steep and the path turns into serpentines in the final part. Just below Ostrý Hrebeň Vretňa we come to the cross with benches. From here on the ridge, it's only a short distance to the top of Vretň. We'll write in the summit book and drink the taste of victory over the humility of this Kysucké great by running back to Radole along the same route. We won't enjoy many views along the route, maybe only views of Radoła, Kysucké Nové Mesto and the surrounding area. From the cross below the top of Vretň, in good weather, there is a wider view of Kysuce. The route mostly leads through a beech forest, it is also suitable for hiking families and recreational tourists. Ascent on skis or by bicycle is impossible due to the steep climb and due to nature protection (Vreteň is a state nature reserve).
In the past, it is said that grass was cut in the meadow on Vretna and then carried down like hay in backpacks by none other than women - let's tip at least three hats to them. Among the animals, in addition to tall and black game animals, wild marten, lynx, common wolf deserve attention, but wild boar and bear also appear here. A rich abundance of songbirds is associated with the scattered greenery, amphibians (spotted salamander, large salamander) and river otter streams and several species of fish are associated with the mountain streams. The Vadičovský stream flows through the northern edge of Radole, with the presence of brown trout. But the forest cover is decreasing more and more, so the foot of the hill for logging starts to look like a shaved sick leg.
About Vreteň hill
Vreteň peak belongs to the Kysucká vrchovina mountain range and has always been attractive to tourists in every season. Of the original trees, beeches and fir beeches have been preserved here, with spruce at higher elevations. In some places, they have retained their natural character, often even a forest-like appearance. Nowadays, spruce monocultures prevail. There are also several representatives of rare mountain forest plant species (ostrich featherwort, nutmeg), as well as rare plant species of meadow and pasture communities characteristic of this area (swordswort and sedges).
