In Trnava, in the forming new religious center of the country, the Trnava Calvary was created as one of the manifestations of the re-catholicization incitement of new piety, sometime in the middle of the 17th century. It was the first ever calvary in the Kingdom of Hungary. According to the model of the Calvary Road of the Jesuit Karel Musart from 1639, leading from Vienna to the Holy Sepulcher in the nearby village of Hernals, a set of seven stops was created in Trnava, either in the form of columns or chapels, lining the road from Trnava.
