The war memorial was built to commemorate the battle of 1848, which is historically known as the Battle of Kostolna.

The monument was built in 1875 from the collections of citizens and the contribution of the county. It is located at the crossroads of the road to the village of Drietoma, directly opposite the main entrance to the church. It has a square base on which is mounted a pyramidal obelisk with marble reliefs of the former coat of arms of the Hungarian state. It is located in an enclosed area and has a square base. Before the First World War, the monument and the area around it were under the care of the then teacher Štefan Markovič and the pupils of the local school. Every year on March 15, there was a big celebration at the monument, during which the students of the school recited poems in Hungarian and many distinguished gentlemen spoke.
