Jozef Bednárik was born in Zelenec in 1947. In 1970 he graduated in acting from the Bratislava Academy of Performing Arts. From 1971 to 1981 he worked as an actor and from 1981 he continued as a director at the Andrej Bagar Theater in Nitra.
At the same time, however, he directed the former Zeleneč "Z-Theater" and as a guest he also worked in theaters in Bratislava, Brno and Prague. Z-Theater was a traditional Zeleneč theater founded in October 1973 under the direction of teacher Rozálie Bednáriková, which was a success not only locally but also worldwide. They presented their productions in Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Yugoslavia, Japan, the USSR, Germany, Italy, Belgium and twice at the World Festival of Amateur Theater in Monaco.
In 1986, Jozef Bednárik received the title of Merited Artist and in 1998 the Crystal Wing award in the category of theater and audiovisual art. During his life, he directed more than 60 plays and starred in two films.
He died on August 22, 2013 at the age of 65 in Bratislava.
The natives organize events every year in honor of Jozef Bednárik in Zelenec. The most famous event is the Jozef Bednárik Café. You can also find more information on the nature trail in the village of Zeleneč.
