Skalka near Trenčín is the ruins of a monastery (so-called Veľká Skalka) in the cadastral area of the village of Skalka nad Váhom in the district of Trenčín. It is the oldest pilgrimage site in Slovakia. It also includes a smaller cave complex, near the Váh River. According to legend, the hermit lived in the cave. Benedict. The monastery was probably built in the 12th century. The surrounding limestone rock formations are a popular place for climbing.
