Florin's house - Dolný Kubín

The two-storey craft house, originally a dyeing house, situated in the historical center of the town of Dolný Kubín, was built in the 18th century. From the end of the 19th century, it was used only for housing. After the fire of Dolný Kubín (1893), it was acquired by Jozef Kohúth, an important historian and monographist of Orava, who lived in it until his death in 1900.

The two-storey craft house, originally a dyeing house, situated in the historical center of the town of Dolný Kubín, was built in the 18th century. From the end of the 19th century, it was used only for housing. After the fire of Dolný Kubín (1893), it was acquired by Jozef Kohúth, an important historian and monographist of Orava, who lived in it until his death in 1900.

In time, the house became the property of the Herkeľov family. In the years 1953 - 1973, the poet, publicist, diplomat and educational worker Teodor Herkeľ Florin lived in it. He was responsible for organizing a nationwide exhibition of artistic lectures - Hviezdoslavov Kubín. He is the author of 11 poetry collections, founded and edited the Hviezdoslav Kubín Bibliophily (more than 30 vol.). the poet's original equipment. Also on display are his poetry collections, personal items and biographical pictorial and textual material.
