Letanovský mill

Meadow still life at the confluence of the Trstený stream with the Hornád river, which is bridged here by a reconstructed imitation of the original Carthusian stone bridge. The bridge was built by Carthusian monks as part of the "Carthusian road to the top" (built in 1454), which led from today's Kláštorisko to the grangie (farmyard) - Tiba near Spišské Tomášovce. The remains of this road have been preserved to this day.

A mill stood over the bridge, on the left bank of the Hornád, until 1927, after which the locality was named. The first mill was built at the beginning of the 19th century and was the property of Tibu, then the Carthusians and after them the Spiš post office. After the abolition of serfdom, it became the property of the Letanov village. In the years 1910-11, she sold it to Karol Poledniak from Košice. The mill was wooden and the new owner demolished it and built a new modern three-cylinder brick mill. It was equipped with a shredder, crusher, circular saw, gatter and dynamo. Before the First World War, the owner leased it to Gustav Schneider and later to Štefan Kocún. During its lease on January 10, 1927, the mill burned down and was not rebuilt. Hat mill gradually fell into disrepair and also succumbed to the ravages of time. The mill itself was later restored as a holiday cottage.

At the entrance to the breakthrough valley of Hornád, on the way from Letanovce to Letanovský mill, on the right bank of the Trstený stream under the forest "Sośňa" stood the "Biskupská" mountain house, popularly called "hajdučňa".

Letanovský mill The people of Letanov used it for a Sunday break from time immemorial. Today it is a holiday village with several private holiday cottages and a small buffet, open in the summer season.

From the point of view of nature protection, the surroundings of Letanovský mill are interesting and very valuable. To the northwest are the sunny, southern slopes of the Ihrík complex. Winter oak (Quercus petraea), which is rare in the Slovak Paradise, and thermophilic mahaleb cherry (Cerasus mahaleb) grow here from woody plants. Its occurrence in the national park can be considered a rarity, because it is located here on the northern edge of its extension.

Letanovský mill is one of the resorts on the northern edge of the Slovak Paradise, which divides the Hornád Gorge into two parts and is an excellent starting point leading to the tourist resorts of Čingov, Podlesok and Kláštorisko. A red, blue and yellow hiking trail passes through the area. The nearest access is from the village of Letanovce by car or on foot. In winter it is possible to climb in ice falls.
