Liptov war campaign of Kurucs in August 1709
The events that preceded this battle are characterized by the resistance of the nobility and the submissive people against the Habsburg government, which grew especially after the Bratislava Parliament in 1687. The measures taken by the parliament limited the privileges and interests of the nobility. General hatred resulted in an uprising led by František Rákoczi II.
In 1704, the whole of Slovakia fell into the hands of Rákoczi. The ravages of the people affected the war devastation the most. In the mentioned year, the villages of Vavrišovo and Kokava burned down.
However, the Kuruk army in 1708 suffered defeat in the battle of Trenčín. There was a turning point in the military actions of the Rákoczi uprising.
