The Botanical Garden in Košice has 4,600 plant species, making it one of the most important in Central Europe. The most rare is the collection of about 1,200 cacti and succulents, which is said to be the largest collection of cacti in the entire territory of former Czechoslovakia.
The forest area of the botanical garden, which consists of forest units of the original species of the natural group, is spread over a large area. The exposition of beautiful orchids is tempting and just as fragrant. Equally interesting is the exposure of insectivorous plants or other species of tropical and subtropical flora found in greenhouses.
The botanical garden includes the Herbarium and the Thaisz Library. A beekeeping nature trail consisting of 13 information boards was also made available to visitors to the botanical garden. The youngest visitors will certainly appreciate the mini ZOO with sheep, goats, chickens, pheasants or bunnies. The installed children's climbing frames and swings will also provide entertainment for the little ones.
The botanical garden can be visited individually or in groups. The greenhouses are accessible all year round on weekdays, non-working days and public holidays. The outdoor area is open seasonally. During working days, organized groups can also use the guide service.
