history of the occurrence of mineral waters in this locality Archival records mention the occurrence of mineral springs in this area as early as the 14th century. It was not until 1863 that a spring was discovered on the way to Ťahanovce in the northern part of the inner city of Košice. After the First World War, a spa was established here.

Later, this mineral water called "egg" was also used for drinking purposes. Over time, the source of mineral water was disposed of for hygienic reasons. Utilization began again in 1980 with the establishment of a drilled well 13 meters deep, but this source was also disposed of due to hygienic defects.

The present

In 1995, a new mineral water drilling source was built, with a well 30 meters deep. He has served his purpose so far.

Characteristics of mineral water

According to Slovak Technical Standards (STN) 868000, mineral water is classified as "natural, weakly mineralized, bicarbonate-chloride, calcium-sodium-magnesium, carbonic, sulfuric water hypotonic, cold (temperature approx. 12.5 degrees C)".

After storage for more than 24 hours, the water acquires a soil-oil odor caused by bacterial strains that survive in deep-water mineral waters. However, they are hygienically safe. Therefore, in order to preserve the original aroma of fresh mineral water, it is advisable to use the water within 12 hours after it has been drained.

Possible turbidity can be caused by the presence of iron in the mineral water, but even this is not an obstacle to consumption.

Source safety

The hygienic safety of the mineral spring is supervised by the Health Institute in Košice, located on Ipeľská Street. It is governed by STN 751111 - Drinking water and STN 86800 Natural and healing mineral waters. The health institute performs regular monthly sampling and evaluation of the samples taken. It also performs these sampling and evaluations in the event of a longer-term shutdown of the spring and after any intervention in the mineral well (repair of pumps, etc.).

The spring itself is also protected by a fence, which prevents the possibility of direct pollution.

Warning

Many people in Košice are aware that a few tens of meters away there is another mineral spring of the same characteristic aroma in the field. Unlike the modified spring - its water is not evaluated by the Health Institute in Košice, it does not belong to the Administration of Urban Greenery and therefore from a safety point of view it is more appropriate to use a protected and controlled spring.
