The Košice State Philharmonic (ŠfK) was founded in 1968 as the second professional concert-type symphony orchestra in Slovakia. The first concert of the newly formed ensemble took place in April 1969 under the direction of the then chief conductor Bystrík Režuch.

The Košice State Philharmonic Orchestra consists of more than 80 professional musicians who perform not only at home but also abroad. Since its inception, the ŠfK Orchestra has given concerts at major international music festivals and important cultural centers - as the first Slovak symphony orchestra to perform in the USA.
