The author of this important architectural work is Professor Engineer and Architect Emil Belluš and the statics of this reservoir were dealt with by Professor Karel Havelka. The reservoir was built in the years 1942 - 1946 and was put into operation in 1954. The volume of the reservoir cylinder is 1200 m³ and the level in this cylinder is 8 meters. The water tank is placed on six reinforced concrete load-bearing columns, which are tied with rings. In the central cylinder of the reservoir, in which the cladding is small windows, there is a technical staircase and water pipes. This reservoir supplies water to the city of Trnava and the surrounding villages. The total height of this reservoir, which was the tallest building in Trnava in the past, is 50 meters.
The reservoir is a national cultural monument and, together with the prosecutor's office building in Bratislava and the Colonnade Bridge in Piešťany, is considered to be the best that architect Belluš has designed.
The reservoir was exceptionally opened to the public for the first time in 2010 as part of the European Cultural Heritage Days event, visitors were not released up to its upper part, but "only" to a height of 40 meters below a huge reservoir of water after climbing 200 steps. From this lookout tower there is a beautiful view of the city, you can see the Little Carpathians and for example the Jaslovské Bohunice power plant. Visitors will not see the other views yet, according to security experts, the stairs are narrow and dangerous, the height of the railing is unsatisfactory, so we will see, maybe sometime in the future.
