Kysak Castle

Above the village on the hill Hrad are still visible traces of medieval settlement. The first written record of the castle above Kysak dates from 1335.

The castle belonged to the Drien branch of the Abovce family and probably had the task of guarding the passage through the narrow valley of the Hornád. It was probably built in the second half of the 13th century. We do not know when the castle disappeared. But not before the end of the 15th century, after the extinction of the family, the castle became royal. It is necessary to mention that in documents, but also in the consciousness of the people, the Kysak castle is often associated with the name of the Hungarian ruler Matej Korvín, who often hunted here. Archaeological research was carried out in the years 1991 - 1993, all found ceramic and metal fragments were professionally preserved and are presented at specialized exhibitions. Today, the remains of the castle above the village are still visible, it is possible to recognize the outlines of the fortifications and residential areas.
