Spa to Sina- Trencianske Teplice

In 1835, the spa was bought by the Viennese financier Juraj Sina, who rebuilt and modernized it. His son Simon had a hotel built and expanded the spa park, and in 1888 his daughter Ifigénia had the most precious historical monument preserved to this day, Hammam in the Oriental Moorish style, added to the Sina mirror.

The Sina Spa House was, in the past, the most exclusive, something a spa customer in Trenčianske Teplice could indulge in. Especially luxurious because of its Hamman baths. The story of this important building began when the then owner of the spa, Ifigénia de Castries d´Harcourt, saw a model of a luxurious Turkish bath at the World's Fair in Paris. She was fascinated by him. Even so that she traveled to Egypt, where she asked Viceroy Izmail for permission to build a Hammam in Trenčianske Teplice. Izmail complied with her request and sent his court architect to Trenčianske Teplice with her. Hammam, or Arabic translation, spas were among the main holiday destinations of the aristocracy. The choice of the style in which the spa will be built was also not random. From the 18th century, the spa was built more in the Roman style, inspired by the ancient baths of the emperors such as the Caracalla Baths or the Nero Baths in Rome. In about the middle of the 19th century, however, Europe was flooded with real "orientomania." This happened after the Crimean War, where the British and French empires fought alongside the Ottoman Empire against the Russian Empire. The Ottoman Empire, in the consciousness of the Western world, became an ally and has not been the long-despised enemy it has been since the fall of the Byzantine Empire. Another decisive factor was the travel boom, which fascinated Europeans in India, but especially in the Far East: China and Japan. At that time, therefore, a romantic image was born of oriental sultans, who enjoy life in their fairy-tale palaces and harems. The European aristocracy liked this concept so much that the spa continent of Ifigénie de Castries d´Harcourt was a dream come true for them.

The spa attracts with its exterior look, reminiscent of a Byzantine-style mosque. However, the interior of this inconspicuous building will take your breath away. The central space imitates the prayer room of the mosque. The basic feature is the central pool, interrupted in the middle of the room by a beautiful oriental fountain. The Ottoman Empire was famous for these, because it was the first to have fountains built for the common people, as a source of drinking water. The Ottoman Turks were to owe the water to the sultan for the water from the fountains, so that each of the fountains was richly decorated. The colonnade around the imaginary square consists of lockable resting chambers, inspired by the legendary Great Harem of the Ottoman Sultans. The first floor, decorated with extremely valuable glazed tiles, provides more privacy.

Today, the Hammam serves spa relaxation for spa guests, and massages are also available. It is accessible to everyone, both as a place for providing spa treatments and as an interesting historical monument. Everyone who has recovered and will still recover in Hammam, Trenčín, can recall the well-known quote: "There is more happiness than being healthy and that is - to recover."
