The church was built after the issuance of a tolerance patent by Joseph II. during the work of the pastor Pavel Korbélyi with the help of patrons Ján and Ľudovít Ghýczy. His consecration took place on October 5, 1786. It was built without a tower, made of hard material. The floor plan was in the shape of a rectangle measuring 18 x 10 x 7 m. The entrance was located on the north side, the southern part was closed by a semicircular apse. The building was originally covered with wooden shingles and had a wooden floor.

The interior was dominated by an altar with four wooden Doric columns and wooden statues of Moses and Aaron. The altarpiece depicted the twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple in Jerusalem. There was an extensive choir on three sides of the church. The original organ had 6 mutations without tremule. The tower was added to the prayer house only after 1787 on the basis of a royal decree of 2 February 1787.

The original tower was rehabilitated in 1819 during the work of the preacher Adam Škultéty. A new 14 m high wooden tower was built in its place in the same year. In 1869, the unsatisfactory wooden tower was dismantled and a brick tower was built in its place, which is still preserved. It was consecrated on October 2, 1869. Its height is 25 m and it has a square floor plan with a side of 4 m. The bells were from the original wooden tower. At the same time, a general overhaul of the temple took place. Other minor repairs were made in 1886 before the centenary of his consecration. The altar was restored in December 1892, and choir repairs were made in May 1893. At the same time, new concrete paving was made. In 1894, a new organ was purchased for 900 gold. Further repairs of the church took place in 1900.

In 1928 the roof of the church was covered with galvanized sheet metal, in 1930 the church was repaired and two bells were purchased. In 1955, a new altar painting was consecrated with a scene of Christ saving the drowning Peter by the academic painter Ľudovít Vaníček. In 1962, the general reconstruction of the church was completed. The original tolerance layout with a spacious choir and the tower has been preserved.
