To the Stations of the Cross in Opoj, Abraham and Veľké Úľany - Traces of the Past

The Franciscans were the first to establish the Stations of the Cross in the present territory of Slovakia, already in the middle of the 17th century. The oldest did not have the classic 14th stops as we usually know them today. The first ones were in Trnava in Staré Hory and in Bratislava.

Northwest of Opoja is the beginning of the newly built Stations of the Cross, which ends in front of the Stone Cross in the Upper Parts section. From Opoja we will go through Majcichov and Hoste to the park with the manor house in Abraham. The Way of the Cross begins almost at the beginning of the park in the direction from the village, while 14 stops with scenes are located on the trees. Behind the former count's ice house, the Stations of the Cross on a small hill ends with a cross and a foreign tree - orange mackerel. We return to the beginning of the park and continue to the center of Abraham. We will cross the whole village to its end to the football field and soon we will reach Pustých Úľany. We continue in a south-easterly direction to the railway station behind the village. Later we come to the main road, where we turn right onto a panel road parallel to the main road. Soon, however, at the first turn, we head to the left across the main road to Lúčný dvor, from where the signposts lead us to Včelárská paseka. This open-air museum is definitely worth a visit. We will come to Jánovce on a dirt road and then turn left onto the asphalt road. We will cross the village and continue to Veľké Úľany. Not far from the village center stands the small Calvary on a small hill. The fenced area with a circular floor plan includes the chapels of the Stations of the Cross in the wall of the enclosure, as well as the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, a sandstone cross and statues of the Virgin Mary and St. John the Evangelist. The Little Calvary is the most important sacral monument in the village.
