Cífer is the largest village in our region. It is constantly growing, but from a historical point of view it has a lot to offer. Tradition from the past has its roots in the present.

The oldest written mention of the village dates from 1291 and is mentioned in a document of the Esztergom Chapter. According to her, Cífer was a hereditary, ie former property of the Lefantovsk family, from the 16th century it belonged to the Ňáriov family, later to the Zičiov family and to several peasant families. At the beginning of the 18th century, Cífer gained market law and became an agricultural town. The inhabitants were engaged in agriculture and embroidery. The name of Mária Hollósa and the support of the then Countess Charlotte Ziči are associated with the establishment of an embroidery school in 1892, in which it was sewn even for the imperial court in Vienna. The beauty of embroidery has won several world awards. Folklore also has a long tradition in the village - the beginnings date back to 1919, when the local dramatic circle of Ján Palárik was active. Today, the Cífer Folklore Group operates in Cífer. With songs, dances, customs and beautiful costumes, he brings the region closer to the public in various parts of Slovakia, but also abroad. The rewards for the results of the work are many awards and honorable mentions. Among other organizations operating in the village, we will mention the Association of Friends of Music, which prepares many concerts in Cífer, as well as the Pensioners 'Club, a choir founded in 1935, a fire brigade, a gardeners' union and a fishermen's union.

Sights of the village Cífer

Among the many cultural monuments that abound in the village, we mention the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michal the Archangel from 1936, the third in a row at this place, the Roman Catholic parish from 1812, the neo-Gothic chapel in the cemetery, the monument to the fallen in World War I from 1928, the chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows from the 17th century, the cross from 1807 in the cemetery, the statue of St. Vendelín from 1755, the chapel of St. Cyril and Methodius from 1944 and the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk from 1735, the statue of St. Ján Nepomucký from 1799 in front of the church or the manor house.

The current character of the village Cífer

The village of Cífer lies on the southeastern edge of the Trnava Uplands, the Gidra Stream flows through it. Together with the local parts of Pác and Jarná, which belong to the village, it has 4,275 inhabitants - it is the largest village in the Trnava district. The village has developed agriculture, engineering and food production. The village has very good rail and road connections with Bratislava and Trnava. As for civic and technical facilities, the village has a primary and kindergarten, general, pediatric and dentist's office, post office, ATM, library, gym, multifunctional playground, stadium, several restaurants, textile food stores, stationery, florist, general store, public water supply and sewerage, collection yard. The IDC LOLLY plant, a manufacturer of chocolate and confectionery, is based here. It provides employment to approximately 145 inhabitants of the municipality of Cífer and its surroundings. Another important company in the village includes BIOMIN as, engaged in research, development, production and sale of drugs, food and feed supplements. There are several sports clubs in the village, the football club ŠK Cífer, the handball club TJ Sokol Cífer, the chess club Cífer, the Canis club Cífer. The village hosts many cultural, social and sporting events and activities throughout the year.
