Milling was an important cultural and social phenomenon in Slovakia, as cereals and their products formed an important part of the diet of people living in the Central European region. The miller and his family represented unmistakable people in the context of the local community, who formed a relationship with them on the basis of several criteria. The attitude of the majority population towards the millers was ambivalent. On the one hand, millers were perceived as the bearers of progress, as they were the first to electrify their operations and introduce innovations. They were also skilled craftsmen, working in a mill required mastering working with both wood and metal. In a rural setting, they were one of the few people who had more cash and also owned large buildings.
