The village of Láb

The village of Láb is located in the south of the central area of the Záhorská lowland in the Močiarka valley, eight kilometers south of Malaciek.

The oldest settlement of Lábu dates back to the Late Stone Age, the Neolithic. Archaeological House with a thatched roof, made of unfired bricks and clay floors in the sixties of the twentieth century was still inhabited by their owners. It was rehabilitated in 1979. Findings confirmed that already in the 8th century there was a Slavic settlement and the remains of a settlement and burial ground from the period of the Great Moravian Empire were also found.

The settlement called LOYP is mentioned in a document already in 1206 . It was issued by the Hungarian King Andrew II, by whom he awarded Count Alexander of the Hont-Poznan family for his faithful service of land with a market place and the resulting profit. Originally it belonged to the swimming estate, later it became the property of the owners of the Stupava estate. In 1333, as a result of family quarrels over the boundaries of individual estates, the Bratislava Chapter divided Štvrtocký's property into the western part - the village of Štvrtok and the eastern part, which also included a church - the village of Láb. Since this division, the village of Láb has probably developed as an independent municipality.

In the 16th century , families of Croatian colonists settled here. The inhabitants of Láb were engaged in agriculture , especially the cultivation of vegetables, which they sold in Vienna at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The typical craft was carving and embroidery. Elbe embroidery manifested itself mainly in the richness of the local costume, which is one of the most beautiful in this region. From the 19th century, there was a brick and sawmill in the village , a production of reed mesh , there were various shops, not only food, but also with medicinal plants. At the end of the 19th century, the first inhabitants began to leave for work in America.

The village has published an extensive publication called New Book on Labe , in which you can learn in more detail about the development of the village, its title and the present. You can buy it at the Municipal Office.
