POI 680 Eastern plane tree in Jelka

Age: 350 years, circumference: 900 cm, height 35 m. It is considered to be the oldest sycamore tree in Central Europe. Legend has it that Ilka Castle was once on the edge of a forest in the village of Jelka. The young tree was allegedly donated to the lord of the castle Ilka by King Belo IV., Because he saved his life from the Tartars. According to our ancestors, King Matej Hunyadi also allegedly rested in the shade of a tree after a long journey. It is further said that Duke Bercsényi and his commanders also sat under the Jelčiansky sycamore tree during the Rákoczi battles.
