The original medieval castle was built in the 11th century. The families of the Ujlaki family, the Turzov family, the Forgáčov family and the Erdődy family lived in the Hlohov Castle. It was the Erdődy family who rebuilt the castle into a comfortable manor house and inhabited it until 1945, when Soviet troops entered the town. At that time, a hospital for Soviet soldiers was established at the castle. After their departure, the crew of the Czech-Slovak army resided in the castle for some time. Since 1951, the Hlohovec chateau has housed living rooms and classrooms at an educational institute for young people
