He was an officer in the Roman army, holding a high administrative position in Noricum, in what is now Austria. He suffered martyrdom during the time of Emperor Diocletian. It once belonged to the so-called fourteen helpers in need. The tradition of his martyrdom near the place where the river Enns flows into the Danube is very old and credible. Many of the miracles that were healed are attributed to his intercession, he is also called as a powerful protector against fire or water.
