According to his project, the parts of the stands were made in Budapest and transported by rail to Trnava and from there on carriages. Szilárd Várdai was born in Doľany as the son of the owner of the paper mill Werdenstetter. As a professor of art education, he remained living in Budapest and in 1887 made a Hungarian name (Szilárd Várday, Várdai). He came to live in his birthplace and is buried in the Dolina cemetery. He dedicated the Stations of the Cross to his native village, the construction of which he also led directly on the site. After its completion on October 13, 1894, he was officially thanked by the members of the municipal council at a ceremonial meeting. In the years 1990-91, the paintings of the Stations of the Cross were painted by the Trnava painter Solár.
