It is said that in 1093 Peter Varády, a Hungarian nobleman, came to the Petrovice valley and named the settlement located there after Peter Vsa, Hungarian Peterlak, Latin Petrovilla, German Petersdorf. After the Varády family, the village fell to the feudal lords of the Bársonyi, Farkas, Thebery and Boltizár families. From 1390, the village of Petrova Ves belonged to Štibor of Beckov. Two years later, it fell to the Czoborovs, the owners of the Holíč estate. In 1736, the Habsburgs also took over the Holíč estate with Petrova Vesa, to whom it belonged until the abolition of serfdom, resp. property in it until 1918. Since the end of the First World War, with the establishment of the new Czechoslovak state, Petrova Ves bears the official Slovak name.
In the years 1990 - 2014, the mayor of the village was Miroslav Pochylý, the deputy mayor was Ing. Stanislav Lasica. The General Assembly consisted of 9 deputies. They were: Ing. Stanislav Lasica, Alojz Cvečka, Roman Guček, Mgr. Miriam Hricová, Michaela Vrbová, Štefan Beňa, Ján Polák, Jozef Straka, Vladimír Vépy. As of September 3, 2010, Petrova Ves had 1077 inhabitants.
