Finalist tree of the year. On the grassy area in front of the Smolenice church, the largest and most powerful of the group of lindens will not go unnoticed. The inhabitants and visitors of Smolenice will be captivated mainly by its special structure of the crown, the branches of which have a significant vertical growth. It was planted in 1647 on the occasion of the consecration of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, which was reconstructed on the initiative of Gabriel Erdöda and his wife Mária Pálffy. Today, it is the witness of many cultural events and at the same time the starting point for tourists on many routes in the Lesser Carpathians. Due to its size and age, the Smolenica linden rightly ranks first among the protected lindens of the Trnava district.
