The church was built at the end of the 13th century in an elevated position as a relatively large single-nave brick building with a polygonal presbytery and a northern sacristy. The building material used suggests that the masters seem to have come from nearby Trnava, where it was widely used in the Middle Ages.
During the 14th century, the church was remodeled in Gothic style; the eastern window of the presbytery with a stone tracery dates from this period. In this period, the village already belonged to the Poor Clares from Buda, respectively. Stibor from Stiborice. In 1510, the village with the church passed into the ownership of the Trnava parish.
In 1642, a Baroque reconstruction of the building took place, during which the nave received a new brick vault that covered the Romanesque windows. This required breaking through the new, lower windows. The windows were also adapted to the presbytery. The facades were given a uniform Baroque appearance. A western tower was built next to the western facade.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the local parish was restored and in 1754 they built a new brick tribune in the western part of the nave. In 1794, there was a significant expansion of the church's capacity, when the Baroque tower and the western façade were demolished and the nave was almost doubled in the western direction. A new tower was added to the nave from the west side.
A comprehensive restoration of the church took place in the early 1950s, when, among other things, they repaired the roof and tiles in the church. Another repair was carried out in 1968, when the sacristy was enlarged, the roof was repaired and the interior was painted. As part of further work on the church in the 1970s, a masonry Gothic window was uncovered, in which stained glass windows were installed.
In 2013, the last comprehensive renovation of the building began, which was preceded by research. He brought a shift in the dating of the church to the Romanesque period.
The church serves as the parish church of the local parish of the Roman Catholic Church. In 2013, the restoration connected with the research of the church and the whole area began, within which the surroundings of the building were modified. The facades were completed in autumn 2015. We visited it in August and December 2014 and in October 2015.
