Legend has it that the cross was built by a rich landlord who became so poor that he later begged by his cross. It is difficult to say whether it refers to this cross or to its predecessors, which stood in this place in previous times. It is probably the Lower Cross, which has been mentioned under this name since the beginning of the 17th century. Near this place, the village later buried victims of epidemics. The Lower and, together with it, the Upper Cross mentioned in 1613 (later replaced by Boža muka) were supposed to define the area that belonged to the village.
