It is located in the village of Haluzice in the district of Nové Mesto nad Váhom in the Trenčín Region. It was formed by the erosive activity of the Haluzický brook, which in the first phase cut into less resistant dolomites and in the later phase broke through to an even less resistant layer of aluminum shale. Today, the canyon is 1 km long, 50 m deep and 200 m wide. At first glance, it looks harmless, but in fact, you can observe the unique speed with which it deepens and expands. To date, it has only been possible to prevent it from deepening, but it is still growing visibly and visibly.
The Haluzická gorge was declared a natural monument in 1963, it covers an area of 3.5 ha without a protection zone and the 4th degree of protection applies here. The sides of the gorge are forested, but gradually they collapse and endanger the surrounding houses and the adjacent historical monument The Ruins of the Romanesque church with a fortified settlement. Part of the fortification wall had already fallen into the gorge. According to the written records of Dr. Holuby (1836 - 1923) was still a footbridge across the gorge and two rows of houses along the stream.
The Haluzic Gorge is an exemplary illustration of river piracy. In the horizon of several centuries back, the pothole was still relatively short. It eroded rapidly and extended backwards. In the end, he finally cut the bed of another stream - originally flowing through the village of Haluzice.
