On Saturday, June 5, 2021, a statue of the farmer Štefan Mikuš (1859 - 1921) was unveiled in Doľany (Pezinok district). This simple Slovak man, a farmer, a native of Ratkovce near Leopoldov, where he is also buried, became famous for sacrificing his life for Andrej Hlinka. This happened during a physical attack by a group of Marxists on Hlinka, which he spoke at a peasant assembly in Trnava on March 28, 1921.

Mikuš stood in the way of the aggressive socialists, who attacked the rostrum with logs and bricks, thus preventing the direct intervention of Hlinka, but as a result of severe injuries for six days, on April 3, 1921, he succumbed. He is also buried in his native village.

Along with him, two other farmers were badly wounded, one of whom later allegedly succumbed to his injuries. Mikuš's name became a concept for Hlinka's followers. After the fall of Czechoslovak ideology and the establishment of the Slovak Republic in 1939, the city of Trnava named the street after Mikuš and in the spring of 1944 even unveiled a statue in front of the University Church. The author of the sculpture was the academic sculptor Ján Hučko. However, it did not last long in its place. After the restoration of Czechoslovakia in October 1945, members of the pro-communist Union of Slovak Partisans in Trnava tore it down with a tractor and the remains included in the former anti-tank trenches. The destruction of the work of art took place without the knowledge of the author but also the owner, the city of Trnava.

Štefan Mikuš's piglet Jozef Mikuš (who is also the first child of the Slovak Republic, born on March 14, 1939) has been trying to restore the statue since 2017. When in October 2019 the city of Trnava strictly refused to re-install the statue through the mouth of its mayor, Jozef Mikuš decided to temporarily place the statue on the land of his family company - Vinárstva JM in Doľany (Pezinok district).

The official unveiling of the statue, originally planned for the anniversary of the tragic event, March 2021, had to be postponed to early June for known reasons.

It finally took place on June 5. Holy Mass was first held at 2 pm in the dignified and tastefully arranged premises of a large family business. It was celebrated by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Trnava, Peter Šimko. To clarify, it should be noted that Doľany itself is part of the Bratislava archdiocese, but its leadership avoids events that have a national character.

What is missing from the leadership of the current Bratislava diocese, however, was replaced by the main celebrant, who touched on historical realities in a zealous homily, similar to Štefan Mikuš, his patron saint St. Štefan the first martyr, as well as some current issues today. Together with him, they celebrated St. Mass to five other priests, including the local parish administrator. There were 120 participants who came here from several parts of our republic, from Spiš to Záhorie. Representatives of some political parties (ĽS NS, SĽS), the local department of Matica slovenská from Trnava, and some civic associations were also represented.

After the act of dedicating a new statue, which was performed by Vdp. Peter Šimko, followed by speeches by historians M. Lack and prof. Emilie Hrabovec. The head of the Ružomberok delegation, MP for the city district (and Hlinka's birthplace) Černová, Patrik Habo, presented the event organizer Jozef Mikuš with an honorary gift - a copy of the death mask of Andrej Hlinka. In addition to the speeches, which were ended by the main organizer and soul of the event, Jozef Mikuš, there were also two poems. The first, by Pavel Ország Hviezdoslav, presented by the event moderator Jozef Šimonovič, and by Viliam Hornáček, performed by the well-known Chernivtsi reciter Petr Babala.
