A city rich in history is proud of its present. It has achieved massive development gradually, but especially in recent years, during which it has undergone an unprecedented boom and created conditions for citizens to enjoy a full cultural and social life.
All parts of the city: Spišská Sobota, Veľká, Stráže pod Tatrami, Matejovce, Kvetnica and Poprad have undergone a gradual reconstruction of squares, some buildings, sidewalks, public roads and lighting, recreation areas, playgrounds, etc. Gradually, individual routes of bicycle paths, roundabouts, the multi-purpose sports hall Aréna Poprad were realized, as well as other investments of a smaller or larger scale.
The development of the city also continues through the expansion of housing construction, the improvement of tourism, trade and services, the development of secondary and higher education, the creation of job opportunities and recreation zones. Conditions for the development of tourism and tourism have occurred in the newly built AquaCity water area, which enables year-round versatile relaxation in the water world together with the provision of above-standard hotel services and congress conditions.
Poprad received several awards and favorable ratings. The good name and prestige of the city was also confirmed by the visit of the British Queen Elizabeth II. with Prince Philip in October 2008.
The city is actively working on the creation of projects from the structural funds in the field of equipment, repairs and reconstruction of school buildings. City roads and sidewalks have been widened and repaired. The completion of the restoration and enlargement of the park in front of the railway station has not only created a pleasant first impression of a visit to the city, but the park provides a suitable environment for moments of rest or relaxation. Favorable conditions have been created for the expansion of the number of medical facilities and services of the sales network, sports activities and cultural activities. Gradually, the renewal of other medical centers, shopping centers and modernization of hotel networks is being implemented. After the establishment of the first mobile ice rink in the center of Poprad, the city also initiated the establishment of the second larger one near the multi-purpose hall of the Poprad Arena. The built industrial park Poprad - Matejovce is used almost 100% and individual entrepreneurs contribute to the reduction of the registered unemployment rate within the entire Poprad district by creating jobs. In 2011, the municipality opened a new center of social services and care for the elderly, which provides social services of a high standard.
The successful implementation of projects and their favorable response not only to the citizens of Poprad will not allow the local government not to continue the established trend, despite the increasingly difficult economic starting points. The city is preparing a major reconstruction of the intermediate church, fountain and its surroundings. The network of children's and sports playgrounds, recreation zones and especially in new housing construction will continue, in the modernization of the bus park of public transport, the construction of a bicycle path to the High Tatras - Starý Smokovec is being prepared. Assistance will also be provided to young families who have found themselves in a difficult, unsolvable social situation.
The efforts of the city management are focused on further progressive and qualitative growth of Poprad, which will bring benefits and satisfaction to all residents and visitors to the city in order to make Poprad a city where it pays to live.
