You are introduced to one of the large and successful public libraries of the capital of the Slovak Republic - Bratislava. The Petržalka Local Library is a budgetary organization of the Bratislava - Petržalka district with its registered office on Kutlíkova Street. no. 17 (Technopol building). Its origin dates back to 1986, when the then District National Committee Bratislava 5 established the District People's Library Bratislava 5 for the fifth district of Bratislava.

The libraries in Jarovce, Rusovce and Čuňov were also part of the then organizational structure of this district library. The current name of the Petržalka Local Library was adopted by a resolution of the Petržalka Local Council in 1991. At the same time, its basic documents, the Charter and the Statute, were approved. Organizationally, the Petržalka Local Library is divided into ten branches serving children, youth and adults. One of the branches has a special scientific and professional focus.

As a universal public library with a local scope, it primarily satisfies the cultural, educational and leisure needs of the inhabitants of the city district, offers a safe environment for obtaining information and creates conditions for obtaining and making information available to the general public in all areas of life. The branches are located evenly throughout Petržalka and are available to the public in each of its locations. Today, the library fund consists of over 230,000 titles and is supplemented and updated annually by an average of 6,000 titles. Every year, the library provides its readers and visitors with an average of 60 types of periodicals. In addition to books, we offer rental of e-books and electronic readers. Rental services are fully automated, public internet and wifi zones are available at all branches. The Petržalka Library does not forget to revitalize and modernize the premises so that they meet the conditions for a modern and high-quality environment with rest areas.

In addition to building and making the library collection accessible, library activity is an important part of the work. Dozens of events, discussions, lectures and exhibitions take place in the library's branches throughout the year. The largest and most important library projects include "Petrekal's Consonations of Ferk Urbánek", a literary competition of beginning authors, a competition of school magazines entitled "Life through our eyes - journalists of the third millennium" or the project "Such was Petržalka", presenting the history of Petržalka from the first mention to the present through exhibitions and accompanying events (presentations, discussions, meetings). In March, we are implementing a successful reading festival Awake (s) with a book, intended for families with children, preschool and school youth and teenagers, in which we offer a number of activities, theater performances and readings in the background of working with a book. During the summer, we operate a successful summer Open air library on Tyršovo nábreží in Petržalka, which consists of a self-service library, programs for children and author meetings for adults.
