During the Slovak National Uprising, the village of Kľak was burned down and dozens of residents were murdered. For helping partisan groups operating in the Vtáčnik mountains during the SNP, Kľak was completely burned down and 84 citizens were murdered. The monument to citizens and partisans martyred by fascists by Ján Hučka was built in 1959.
